Woodbury University is not a testing center for College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Exams. CLEP Exams can be taken at nearby test centers listed on the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com
What is CLEP?
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) consists of 34 exams that allow you to receive credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores. You may able to take a CLEP Exam in place of College Algebra, Macro or Micro Economics, Literature, etc. You can shorten your time to graduate, ease your credit load, and save money. Woodbury students are required to file for permission by filliing out a concurrent enrollment in advance of taking an exam so their exam credit will be approved for credit by the university.
What are the exams like?
There is a copy of "The College Board CLEP Official Study Guide" on reserve, in our library. It includes descriptions and examples of all the CLEP tests. It is a guide to help you decide if you are prepared for the various tests. It is not adequate, by itself, to prepare you to take a CLEP Exam. A realistic way to think of CLEP is as a "replacement" final exam!
Am I eligible to take a CLEP test?
Woodbury students must file a concurrent enrollment form with their faculty advisor and turn it in to the Registrar’s office for approval. Once approved, the student can email/call a CLEP testing center for an appointment to take their Woodbury approved exam. Have the approved concurrent enrollment form handy when scheduling your exam to ensure that you are signing up for the correct CLEP Exam. There are specific limits on the number of credits you can "transfer" into the university. CLEP examination credits are treated much like transferring a course from another institution. CLEP exams will not be given without this form. Among other items, this form states specifically which CLEP exam you need to take. No CLEP test will be given without this form approved by the Registrar!
CLEP Exams are used to fulfill lower division general education courses , and cannot be used to fulfill any upper division requirements. In general, Woodbury will award credit for any CLEP Exam, except for English exams. Most exams will fulfill either a social science, humanities, or lower division general education elective requirements. Woodbury uses them for unrestricted elective units as well. Most exams are worth 3 units. Languages are worth up to 6 units, but students who have previously taken a foreign language course are not eligible to take this CLEP Exam as it covers the first two introductory level courses. Woodbury does not accept CLEP exams towards most major requirements, and mostly accepts exam credit for general education requirements.
How do I prepare?
Since the tests are on computer, it would be wise to learn how the software looks and works before the day of the test. You can download a copy of the "CLEP Sampler - An Introduction to taking CLEP on computer" from the CLEP website. (www.collegeboard.com) However, it is a large file (20.2 MB) and can take well over an hour or even more to download, especially if you are using a modem to connect to the Internet. The CLEP Sampler is installed on all the machines in the Whitten Student Center. It should only take you about 30 minutes to an hour to learn how to take a test. However, this is not a practice test on any of the subjects it is only a sample as to how all the buttons and keys work during a test. If you would like to know what each test is composed of; the material it will cover. Please go to http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/exams.html. You can review the specific test you wish to take and discover what areas are most likely to be on an exam.
While this is not a recommendation, there are companies, such as Comex Systems or Princeton Review, that publish study guides. Their websites and resources are below:

When you come in for your test, you must bring:
1. Current, valid ID with name, photograph, and signature (drivers license, passport or college student ID)
2. Your Social Security Number
3. Credit Card (Discover, VISA or Mastercard), or check to pay $65 directly to CLEP via computer over the Internet or sent in the mail. Please note that this is to CLEP and not Woodbury. Woodbury students cannot add this amount to your account in the business office.
Please double check with your testing center to ensure that everything you need to take the test will be provided on the computer or by the test center. Do not bring any testing aids with you, in particular, calculators.
Anyone found using "testing aids" of any sort, not included in the software, during the examination will be excused from completing the examination.
Tampering with the computer or using it for any purpose other than the CLEP test is also considered misconduct.
How do I get my grade?
Upon the completion of your test, the computer will give you the option of canceling or reporting your scores. If you agree to "send," ETS will forward your official score report to Woodbury University within two weeks. Then, on the next screen you will get your test score. You will also get a print out of your results when you are done. If you do not send the score, all records of your test are cancelled (except your payment.) You will not get a grade
