The Development and Alumni Relations office in Hensel Hall and the Career Development Office in the Whitten Student Center work together to advance two distinct and important resources in higher education: Career Development and Alumni Relations.
By working together across campus, each area serves students from undergraduate days through their careers and maintains communication with them into their retirement. This important cross functional collaboration provides support and resources for students and alumni to develop a proactive style of career management that links classroom experience, enriching experiences outside the classroom, and professional involvement.
Alumni represent a vital component of the Woodbury community and are encouraged to participate in networking events and career programs that are designed to expose our constituents to professional activity and raise awareness of resources and mentoring opportunities. Each office encourages alumni to access career development resources themselves (when necessary) while participating as an important component of the network, assisting students and fellow alumni.
Additionally, the team works closely with the Alumni Advisory Board and other volunteer groups to improve the programs and events that are offered. Each month, students and alumni are invited to attend social events throughout the Southern California area to expand their personal and professional network and to increase their involvement with Woodbury.
The Development and Alumni Relations Office is part of the division of University Advancement and the Career Development office is part of the division of Student Development. Together, they work with other offices across campus to increase volunteer opportunities, make connections with employers, and provide the best resources to students and alumni for professional and personal enrichment.
Career Development, a unit of Office of Student Development in Whitten Student Center provides programs, services and resources designed to encourage and assist students in the timely engagement in all aspects of career planning, experiential education, educational opportunities, and job attainment. Career Development fosters partnership with employers, alumni, faculty and the community to increase their participation in providing opportunities for the career development of students.
The Office believes that students who get involved with programs and activities beyond the classroom as early as first year are more likely to find career success. This includes internships, student organizations, volunteer positions, off-campus programs, and other extra-curricular activities.

Alumni of the Year
Woodbury University honors alumni each year during Founders’ Week celebrations in the Fall. The Alumnus of the Year award is traditionally presented to an alum who has demonstrated commitment to the university and to their community. Nominations are welcome and are reviewed by the president for final selection.
Alumni & Career Events
We offer a variety of events throughout the year for students, alumni, and employers to be involved in.
Some of our career development events include: school-specific job fairs, workshops, luncheons, alumni and industry panel discussions, networking events, portfolio reviews, on-campus interviews, and employer info sessions. We also offer events designed for alumni and the entire campus community, like our monthly alumni-association event series that feature concerts, theaters, museums, sporting events, and social gatherings.
Founders’ Week commemorates the time in October 1884 when Woodbury’s first students arrived for class in a building in the El Pueblo de Los Angeles on a dusty road near the Pico House in downtown Los Angeles. Since 1884, over 75,000 people have studied in the classrooms and studios at Woodbury.
Founders’ Week includes a variety of activities, including the Class Reunion Brunch, the University Appreciation and Recognition Lunch, and the Movers & Shapers Award Luncheon, as well as several other student and community-focused events and programs.
Other events on our calendar include the annual Alumni Cruise and the President’s Cruise.
There is an upcoming Phi Theta Pi - Alpha Iota Reunion in Las Vegas that will take place June 7-8-9. President Calingo will be the keynote speaker. It's an all class fraternity/sorority reunion. Please visit www.alphaphiwoodbury.com for more details.
Online Community
Woodbury alumni and current students are actively using online social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to reconnect and network with business professionals and friends. The Careers and Alumni Office has developed an active presence on all three of these sites and will continue to develop new ways to help alumni and students connect with the university and with one another.
