Woodbury is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its exceptionally talented Graphic Design students, Nya Dura and Seslie Silva. The Woodbury School of Media : Culture: Design : Students received prestigious awards for their outstanding projects in their Graphic Design 2 course, presented by Graphis – a renowned platform that celebrates creative excellence and showcases emerging talent.
“Woodbury University’s School of Media : Culture : Design is proud of Nya and Seslie’s achievements in winning silver and honorable mention awards in the esteemed Graphis competition for their work in Graphic Design 2,” says Professor of the Graphic Design 2 course, Rebekah Albrecht. “Both Nya and Seslie employ lived experience to create work that is bold, original, and unexpected. These students consistently develop unconventional ideation solutions, and as their professor I am so pleased to see their work awarded,” Albrecht went on to say.
Graphic Design 2 is a systems design course that features projects in which students select to re-brand real-world musical, theatrical or cultural festival event. After comprehensive research, students are tasked with creating a brand identity system – complete with an event logo, out of home posters, billboards, streetlamp banners, social media ads, email blasts and web designs.
“I chose AFROPUNK for its beauty in uplifting alternative Black Creatives and creating a safe space for its attendees through live music, as well as all Black business vendors. AFROPUNK’s overall impact on the Black community comes through the amplification of love and admiration of life in the eye of minority artists.” says Nya Dura, winner of the silver award in the poster design category.
Seslie Silva won an honorable mention in the poster design category and talks about her inspiration and process behind creating these designs. “My approach to redesigning Burning Man was to look at the 10 practice principles they celebrate. Radical Self-expression and Communal Effort are among the principles that I believe to be most important in understanding Burning Man.” Silva said.
“Congratulations to Nya and Seslie for having their work rightfully recognized by Graphis.” Says Jeff Bellantoni, the Dean of the School of Media: Culture: Design. “Our faculty strive to help students recognize their inherent talent, developing creative thinking and making skills that results in amazing solutions such as Nya and Selie’s projects. Students with a graphic design major receive a rigorous education resulting in strong, competitive portfolios that stand out in the graphic design industry.”
